In some places you can not remove the thick roof.

You still have to wait for colonists to go and remove the roof segments or you can force them to with a right click on the roof section you want to remove after marking it as a no roof area.
Which is why the biggest square room you can make without any support beams is 13x13.
Jul 21 2016 12 32pm removeing mountain roofs so i try to remove the mountain roofs so they don t collapse by declareing a no roof area but on some tiles it will never be possible to declare that area and if i let the roof collapse and remove the debris it just collapses again.
