Most people do not think about insulating their floors unless perhaps it s their attic floor. Or as demonstrated here you can cover the slab with rigid foam insulation add two layers of plywood and then add the finish flooring. Eps is used under roofing over foundation walls and beneath siding. Foam board insulation is used on attics and walls yet it can also be used to insulate your floors.

Since this is way out of our budget i thought i could tackle the problem from the floor of the room since we have to replace the carpet. Is the 1 2 adequate underlay going to be sufficient. The tile floor when finished will sit just shy of the oak floor by about 1 4 to 1 2.

You can attach wood sleepers to the floor fill the gaps with rigid foam insulation and then apply your finish flooring. The rest of the bedroom floor is 3 4 oak which has already been installed and finished. But insulating your floors is a good idea for many reasons including energy efficiency and height adjustments.
